Der Haroutunian Gallery is thrilled to announce the arrival of a stunning batch of paintings by the hugely talented contemporary South African artist Schalk van der Merwe.

We have added a few to our website already and will be adding the others to the site over time.

In the meantime if you wish to see the others please email the gallery at info@derharoutuniangallery.com and we'd be happy to forward the details of all the paintings.

Delighted to say we have added four fabulous works on paper by Arto Der Haroutunian (1940-1987) which have come direct from the artist estate.

These four works are beautifully framed and very well priced! They are also prime examples of the artists use of strong lines and colour which gave his work a vitality and freshness to that of his contemporaries.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information

After the overwhelming success of the first batch of paintings from our South African artist, Schalk van der Merwe, we are delighted to have received another stunning painting titled 'Visceral #59'

To those of you who are unaware of Schalk's work here is a brief biography:

Schalke van Der Merwe is a South African artist of growing renown. Born and bred in Cape Town, he now lives and works in Hout Bay. Having gained formative experience in the advertising industry as both Graphic Designer and Art Director, the latter role earning him international recognition, this eclectic background has helped inform his artistic practice. An artist who predominantly chooses to focus on portraiture, the nuanced depictions of his subjects are rendered with a sensitivity and fragility which belies the rawness of the artist’s emotion and expression.

Schalke has exhibited successfully for a number of years in galleries across South Africa. An artist who is now synonymous with these beguiling and ambivalent portraits, he is now receiving wider international recognition and acclaim as evidenced by the current demand from a worldwide collector base for his unique works. Whilst he already has a significant following in North America, his work is also represented in noteworthy collections across Africa and, increasingly, within Europe.

We do have a further two paintings but they have not yet been framed or added to the site. If you wish to see images of these please do not hesitate to contact us.
